Ad | Kids love adventure. They enjoy spending time with their playmates, exploring the huge world around them. They have so much fun that they often forget that it’s naptime. This makes them fussy and throw tantrums that might result in them getting hurt.
During childhood, it’s important that kids take plenty of rest and sleep for them to develop their bodies. Doctors advise that toddlers need at least 11 hours of sleep everyday. They’ll also need naps during the day to help them recharge and get a good night’s sleep.
However, what happens if your kids absolutely hate naptime? Is there something you can do? Follow our tips for a no-fuss naptime!
Create a naptime routine (and stick to it!)
Kids dislike not knowing what to do. By establishing a naptime routine, you can give them expectations on what their daily activities will be, giving them a sense of stability.
You can start by setting a schedule for their naptime. This should be a specific time, and stick to it as much as possible. You can also dim the lights or play soothing music to signal nap time. This creates a relaxed environment, reducing their energy and tantrums.
A comfy place to sleep
Just like adults, kids can’t get a good rest if they’re napping in an uncomfortable place. This is why you should ensure your child’s environment is relaxing before they nap.
Keep their room dark and quiet during naptime to prevent them from waking up and disturbing their sleep. You should also make sure that their beds are cozy enough for them to snuggle in.
For example, the bunk beds at Cuckooland have plenty of room for them to lay down comfortably and safely. They can freely move around while napping, and you won’t have to worry about your child falling off the top bunk!
Burn the extra energy before naptime
There’s no doubt that children have a lot of energy, so it’s better form them to burn it off during the day.
Let them play outdoors if the weather is nice. The fresh air and sun will do wonders not only to your child’s body, but also to their nap time.
You can also let them play indoors. There are a lot of activities that’ll burn their extra energy, even if they say that they are bored!
Avoid sugar and screentime
We know kids love sugar while watching their favourite videos. It’s fun for them, but not helpful when you’re trying to get them to love naptime.
Sweets before nap time will only result in a sugar rush. This makes it hard for them to relax and rest. If they’ve eaten sweets, you might only find them tossing and turning in bed instead of napping!
Screentime, on the other hand, will make their eyes active. The light from the telly or device will only stimulate their tiny brains, making it difficult to “turn it off” while napping.
Naps are essential in child development. It allows their bodies to recharge and prevents them from being too irritable. Naps also promote better nighttime sleep as it prevents your kid from becoming overtired. However, if your child refuses naptime, you can follow our tips to teach them how to love naps!
