Hey lovelies and welcome to the Mum diaries.
The Mum Diaries is a weekly column all about what we’re up to, what family life is like at the moment and any random thoughts and feelings that come up.
Think of it like a chat with a good friend that you haven’t seen for a while.
When you’re ready, grab your coffee, sit down with me, and lets have a catch up.
A New Year
I love the start of a new year. I always get super motivated and make lots of new goals and plans for the year ahead, and this year is no different.
In 2023 I started a course on a whim, and passed it with flying colours. I was totally surprised, but so proud of myself. So proud in fact, that I signed up for another one and have the next one planned out too! It’s been a slow start (see below), but I already have so many ideas with what I’m going to do with the qualifications.
I also have some writing plans. After winning an award for the blog last year (link), I’ve been thinking about what direction to take things in. My head is full of ideas, and I’m planning some exciting content for the new year.
Blogging took a little bit of a back seat last year due to the courses and other things, and I’ve really missed it. I’m excited to get back into writing again, and sharing everything with you guys.
Christmas
Christmas is my absolute favourite time of the year, and I’m missing it already. And actually, I’m already planning for the next one! Am I crazy? Maybe, but I do like to plan ahead.
Christmas this year was wonderful. The kids are at the ages now where they know what’s going on, and that just makes it all the more magical for me.
I mean, I still like to believe in Father Christmas myself, and to have the little ones looking out of the window with me on Christmas Eve hoping to spot Santa’s sleigh is just amazing. Again, am I crazy? Maybe!
I also love the week between Christmas and New Year. It kind of feels like being on holiday for me. Normal life is on hold, you don’t have to do anything or be anywhere. And if you want to have chocolate for breakfast, you always have the ‘It’s Christmas’ excuse.
Cold, dark nights
I also love the weather at this time of the year. Nobody else can understand it, but I love it.
Pajamas, lots of fluffy blankets and getting snuggled up on the sofa together to watch a film in the evening is what winter is all about.
And snow. If we get any. I have my fingers crossed. And frosty mornings. The ones where you have to de ice the car before you get the door open. And then sit there for 10 minutes waiting for the heating to kick in before you drive off.
Winter is the best.
Books, books, books
Another thing I love about this time of year is reading. I mean, you can read any time od the year obviously, but winter is the perfect time to curl up with a good book.
I read a total of 31 books in 2023! Yes, 31! And I did suffer from it sometimes due to staying up way too late so that I could read another chapter.
I read a mixture of different genres, but the thriller/horror ones were the ones that I enjoyed the most.
I’ll be posting my book list for 2023 in the next few days, so be sure to check it out if you’re looking for some recommendations on what to read next.
I’m now going to enjoy a glass of wine and do some reading.
