What we love this month – July

July is one of my favourite months of the year. It’s right in the middle of summer, the sunshine is out, and all anybody wants to do is sit and eat ice cream at the beach. Long, lazy summer days seem to melt into one, and there’s nothing better than catching up with friends and family at a BBQ with a chilled glass of white wine.

As we’re now midway through July, I thought it would be a perfect time to share with you what we’re loving this month as a family.

1. Little sun hats

This month we have discovered some perfect little sun hats for Cupar. He’d grown out of his one from last year, so while on a hunt for a new one, these caught my eye. I love the shape and design of them. Cupar likes wearing them and doesn’t try to pull them off straight away, so they must be comfortable. They protect his head, shade his face and even provide shade for the back of his neck. I’ve got one too which my Mum gave me a few years ago, so me and Cupar can match when we go out!

2. Ice lolly moulds

These were a summer staple in my house when I was growing up. Me and my brother had some and we absolutely loved them. We’d experiment with different juices and see what flavours we could come up with next. These were one of the best things about summer for me and I couldn’t wait to get some for Cupar. So far we’ve had a go at 2 different flavours with ours. We did some blackcurrant ones, and some cola ones and both were very yummy.

3. Muslins

Muslins are a mother’s best friend! Cupar has had a cold this week, so I’ve been making sure to keep plenty of muslins handy for catching his runny nose. Muslins are handy little things anyway, and I wouldn’t be without them, but they’re especially handy when it’s cold season. I’ve been keeping one beside the bed for when he wakes up in the night. They’re so easy to wash as they’re so thin, and they dry in no time, especially in this weather.

4. Gin

Aeron treated me to some gin liqueur this month, and I have to say, it’s amazing!

I’ve never really been a gin drinker as I usually stick to wine, but I’m really enjoying this. I’ve tried it with sparkling water, prosecco and on its own, and it tastes lovely either way. It’s made by The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria UK. They have 6 bottles of gin and gin liqueur on their website, and all of the bottles look equally as pretty as each other. I’m going to have to keep mine!

5. The park

It goes without saying that when the sun comes out and you have children, you go to the park. We’re lucky to have quite a few parks around where we live, and one of Cupar’s favourite ones is only a 10 minute walk away. Either me, Aeron, or both of us are there every day with Cupar. I love going because it takes me back to my childhood and I’m like a little kid going on the swings and down the slide. It’s the same park I used to go to when I was little, so it has lots of happy memories for me.
