What We Love | May 2020

Well, May has been another long one, hasn’t it? This year seems to be dragging on but also flying by at the same time. The whole lockdown/pandemic/world going crazy thing has certainly messed with our heads a little bit, and I don’t think any of us know whether we’re coming or going at the moment!

Half the time I can’t even remember what day it is, let alone how far through the month we are.

As weird (again) as May has been, it’s still been a pretty productive month which has been nice.

Here’s what we’ve been loving

The sun has finally come out, and it’s been amazing! The weather has been gorgeous here lately, and we’ve been spending lots of time in the garden getting some much needed fresh air.

I was a bit worried about not being able to go out to the park with Cupar, as I didn’t want him to get bored, but he seems just as happy in the garden as he is anywhere else which is good.

The sunshine has also meant that I’ve finally caught up with the washing as I’ve been able to hang it outside. Our garden gets so much sun in the afternoons, and the clothes dry almost instantly!

When I was clearing out the spare room I found some chalks hiding in a box, and gave them to Cupar to see if he liked them. He LOVES them, and he’s been decorating the garden with drawings. His artwork has been getting a bit of attention too, with people stopping to look at it when they walk past.

Good food

Due to the lockdown, we’ve had to change our shopping routine a bit. We used to pop out to do a bit of food shopping every couple of days and usually didn’t decide what we were going to have until we were literally looking through the shelves. We used to spend quite a bit of money and found ourselves going for the easy options like pizza and chips more often than we should have done!

Lockdown forced us to change all that, and it’s been the best thing that we could have done. We now go to the supermarket once a week, and make sure we have everything we’ll need for all the meals we’re planning to do.

It’s really changed the way we cook, and it’s saved us a lot of money too. We now plan in advance what we’re going to be having, and we’ve found that we’ve got a much more varied diet now too.

Towards the end of the week when we’re getting a bit low, we’ve been making do with what we have in the cupboards and coming up with new recipes so that we don’t have to go out more than we need to.

I’ve always been a crafty person, but have never had much time to dedicate to it. Now that I have a lot more time on my hands, I’ve been dusting off the sewing box and paintbrushes, and getting crafty!

So far I’ve tried pipe cleaner animals, loom band bracelets, painted stones, friendship bracelets, and sewing. I’ve been getting Cupar involved as much as I can, and he seems to enjoy playing with the things that I’ve been making.

I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed stuff like this, so I’m glad I picked it up again.

I’ve been watching a lot more YouTube this month, and I’ve found some amazing people on there. I used to only use it to watch Minecraft videos (secret Minecraft fan), but I’ve since expanded my reach and found that it’s actually a great source of entertainment!

I’ve been watching everything from friendship bracelet patterns to someone’s vlog on getting a bearded dragon as a pet. I find it so interesting to get a little glimpse into people’s lives and see what they get up to.

Cupar has been sticking stickers to anything and everything this month! He absolutely loves the things, and you never know where you’ll find them next.

We have them stuck to the bed, the hoover, the TV, and I’ve even found them at work. I actually love them too, so I’m looking forward to the day that he gets into proper sticker books and gets a little collection going.

With rainbows everywhere at the moment, my Mum was inspired to knit some and give them to the grandchildren, as well as putting one in her window.

The one she gave us has really brightened up the wall in the living room and has given it some much needed colour. What do you think? It’s amazing, right?

    1. Disney + has been amazing for us 😊 I’m so glad I got it. My little boy loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

  1. Lovely post. Like you, we’ve been loving the sunshine as well, it really makes this time better. We have just run out of chalk though which has upset me greatly as I can’t find any more.

I am really enjoying reading currently, it is keeping my brain ticking over x

    1. We’ve run out as well, and I too can’t find any more. I did go to Home Bargains, but the queue was so long we didn’t even bother getting out of the car 😔

  2. I totally agree. I feel like the year and days are flying by but also going really slowly. And with all these weird restrictions but not really restrictions, I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be doing! I think I’m more confused and worried NOW than I was at the beginning of lockdown! At least then, we knew what we had to do! Anyway, it’s great to focus on the positives. I’ve been loving the sunshine but not loving the hay fever coming with it! I’ve been enjoying reading a LOT and getting stuck into good TV series like Prison Break and Desperate Housewives!

    1. I know exactly how you feel. I’m sticking to the usual lockdown rules for now because everything is so confusing and it’s easier to just do what I have been doing!

I feel you on the hayfever. Mine has been so bad this year, especially when it rains which is weird!
