Simple micellar water review

This month I thought I’d treat myself to a new skincare product that I came across called micellar water. Up until this year I had no idea what it was or what it did. But after seeing it mentioned on various YouTube channels, I was desperate to try it out for myself and see if it was really as good as people said it was.
Here is my Simple micellar water review, as well as what it is, how to use it, and my thoughts on Simple’s version:
What does simple micellar water do, and why should you use it?
Well, put quite simply, micellar water removes make up and dirt from your skin that has built up over the course of the day. Packed full of vitamins and other good stuff, it also gives your skin a much needed hydration boost.
As well as being awesome as a make up remover, it can also be great as a cleanser first thing in the morning before you get started with your skincare/make up routine.
Simple micellar water is vegan and cruelty free, which means that it’s not tested on animals. It comes in a recycled AND recyclable bottle too, so you can use it without worrying about the environmental effect.
So all in all, it sounds like a great product. But does it live up to it’s expectations? Let’s take a look:
Simple micellar water ingredients
Before we get into anything else, here is the list of ingredients that is printed on the back of the bottle:
How does micellar water work?
Micellar water gets its name from the tiny balls of mild surfactants called micelles that make up this dirt loving product. These micelles are attracted to the unpleasant things on your face (like dirt, oil and make up) that you’d rather not have sitting there when you jump into bed at night.
Acting like tiny magnets, these micelles rather spectacularly draw out and pick up all of those nasties on your skin. You’re then left feeling fresh, clean and ready for a new day.
How amazing does that sound?
And micellar water isn’t a new idea either, in fact, it’s been around for decades. Originally from France, it was invented by Jean-Noël Thorel as a way for people to cleanse and wash their face without using the naturally harsh tap water that can dry out your skin.
So far, so good. But how do you use it, and is it going to add even more time onto your skincare routine?
How to use Simple micellar cleansing water
The part of the Simple micellar water review that you’ve all been waiting for. How do you use it?
Using Simple micellar water is actually really quick and easy. So easy in fact, that you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried it before.
I generally wear a lot of eye make up, and I find that micellar water works really well at getting it all off at the end of the day.
I usually use one cotton pad per eye, and then another one to wipe over my face afterwards. It works really quickly, and takes my make up off straight away. When I use it on my face after taking my eye make up off, it leaves my skin feeling fresh and soft.
Ever since I was little, I’ve hated washing my face. Soap drys out my skin so much, but after using micellar water for the last few weeks, my skin actually feels good.
Another thing worth mentioning is that micellar water doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily like make up wipes tend to. With make up wipes I can be left feeling like the product is left sitting on my skin for too long, and it can be hard to get off.
Do you rinse off micellar water?
Talking of being hard to get off, you may be wondering if you need to rinse micellar water off your face…
Although there is no need to rinse it off, you can if you want to. The decision is totally up to you, and it depends on how you feel and what you’re going to be putting on your face next.
Personally, I don’t rinse it off.
If left on the skin, it can hydrate for up to 4 hours, so obviously leaving it on is a big benefit.
Can you use micellar water if you don’t wear make up?
As micellar water gets rid of dirt and oils, as well as make up, you can definitely use it if you’re make up free.
The skin on your face naturally picks up all sorts of things during the day, so obviously, you’re going to want to get them off somehow. Sweat, impurities, pollution and toddlers sticky fingers can all leave your skin feeling a bit icky.
The good thing about micellar water is that it can be used at any time of the day as a simple face wash. You can use it when you feel like you need a freshen up, as part of your morning or nightly routine, when you’re out and about, or even when you’re on holiday.
This product will be a life saver on camping trips!
Is micellar water better than make up wipes?
Yes! For me, micellar water is definitely better than make up wipes.
I’ve spent years using wipes, and I’ve never been fully happy with them. They don’t seem to take my make up off fully, they leave streaks across my face, and they tend to leave my skin feeling oily (and that’s never a good combination!).
Since using micellar water, I haven’t had any of the problems mentioned above.
As an added benefit, micellar water is also better for the environment, because you’re not throwing away hundreds of wipes every year. It can be used with reusable wipes too which means that you’ll be cutting down on a lot of waste, and that’s surely got to feel good.
Micellar water benefits

- Can be used at any time of the day
- No need to rinse
- One bottle lasts a long time
- Handy to carry around with you for a freshen up on the go

Simple micellar cleasing water gets a 5 out of 5 from me!
2.5 is because its vegan and cruelty free, and the other 2.5 is because it removes my make up with ease, and is SO much better than make up wipes.
It’s a simple, easy product to use, won’t break the bank, and leaves your skin feeling amazing!
