5 Daily Habits That You Can Easily Do At Nap Time

When you’re a busy Mama, daily habits are essential to helping your day run smoothly. They can not only improve your mental health, but your physical health too. Daily habits form a foundation to your day, and make sure that you’re getting the most out of it that you can.

Forming a habit

To set up a habit and make it into a permanent part of your life, you first need to do a little bit of ground work. Forming habits takes time, and you want to make sure that you’re choosing something that you’ll enjoy, and that you’ll be able to stick to.

Depending on who you ask, it can take an average of 66 days, or just over 2 months to form a habit.  That might seem like a long time, but if you want something to become a part of your routine for years to come, then it’s well worth putting in the effort now.

Just be mindful that you can’t expect to pick 10 habits to do, start them over a weekend and expect your life to be transformed on the Monday. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that (though we all wish it did).

Instead, the best thing to do is to start slow. Pick 1 – 2 things that will be easy to impliment into your daily routine, and go from there. You can always add more later on.

When you’re choosing your daily habits, it helps to follow a few simple steps:

  • Choose things that you like doing and that don’t seem like a chore
  • Choose things that don’t take too long to do.  You don’t want to try and follow something that takes 30 minutes to do every single day, because you’ll probably find that you don’t want to stick to it
  • Have a think about the things that will benefit you and make your life easier
  • Expand on the things that you already do e.g. adding a new step into your skincare routine
  •  Don’t overload yourself with too many new habits all at once

Daily habits and routines

When you’ve chosen 1-2 habits that you want to start doing, have a think about the time of day that they will work the best.  Habits tend to be easier to maintain when they’re done around the same time every day. Set a realistic goal that will fit in with what you’re doing, and see if you can stick to it.

For example, if you want a clean kitchen, then aim to have a tidy up and do the dishes after dinner. There’s no point in leaving it until just before bedtime and then finding that you don’t have any motivation to get started. Similarly, if you want to have a tidy bedroom, then aim to make your bed when you get up rather than just before you leave the house in a rush.

In the same way that we tend to wake up early at the weekends because our body is used to doing it during the week, we’ll eventually start to do our habits automatically because our body is used to doing them.

Routines are everything!

Now that we know a little bit more about forming a habit and how to add it into our routine, let’s take a look at some of the habits that we can try out.

5 daily habits you should definitely be doing

If you’re looking for some quick, simple and easy to implement daily habits, then these are the ones for you:

Drink water

Making sure that you’re drink enough water throughout the day is one of the most important daily habits that you can do. It’s good for your skin, it’s beneficial to your body, and it’s also amazing for your energy levels.

When you don’t drink enough water you can feel tired, sluggish and headachy, and nobody wants that on a daily basis!

A good way to make sure that you’re drinking enough water is to carry a bottle in your bag with you. This way, it’s like a constant reminder and you’ll find that you reach for it whenever you need it.

I find that when I have my water bottle with me, I’ll take sips throughout the day without really thinking about it.

Skincare

Having a good skincare routine is something that we should all be doing no matter what our skin type is. Moisturising, cleansing, washing and taking our make up off will all help us to feel good about ourselves, and help to protect our skin.

You don’t need to do everything mentioned above, instead just choose a couple of things that will fit in with you and how you feel.

Whether you choose to do it in the morning, the evening, or even both, there are a whole host of products that you can choose from. Micellar water is a good one to start with, as it has a lot of different uses.

Stretch

Stretching every day is a great habit to take up, and it doesn’t take too much time to do.

Stretching can involve doing some morning yoga in bed, following a yoga or workout video online, or even just doing some stretches at your desk while you’re at work.

Giving your muscles a stretch is a great way to wake yourself up and get your blood flowing in the morning. If you choose to do yoga you also get the added benefit of breathing and meditation, which brings me on to the next step:

Breathe

Taking the time to sit quietly for a few moments and breathe every day can do wonders if you’re suffering from stress or anxiety, or even just having a bad day.

Try taking 10 minutes in the morning and evening to clear your mind and concentrate on your breathing. If you want an added benefit, then go outside and get some fresh air at the same time.

If you do yoga, then you can incorporate this into your stretching at the same time.

Write

Writing can be a great way to clear your mind and get all of your thoughts together. If you’ve never tried journaling before, then I definitely recommend giving it a go.

Journaling is something that I’ve always done, and I find it really helps me when I’m stressed out or just need to vent.
