What We Love This Month – October

Compared to the previous few months, October has actually been quite a slow one for us. We’ve still been busy, but things seem to have moved at more of a steady pace, rather than rushing away at the speed of light. It’s good because it’s meant that we’ve had time to stop and enjoy the lovely autumn weather; splashing in muddy puddles, running through fallen leaves and wrapping ourselves up against the chilly October breeze. We’ve celebrated another birthday, had lots of days out and welcomed the darker nights with some cosy family evenings in. All in all, it’s been a rather enjoyable month.

Here are some things that stood out for us and made us smile:

The weather

With the summer heatwave now a distant memory, we’ve been getting into the spirit of all things autumnal. The colder weather hasn’t stopped us going out, and if anything, it’s made being outside even more enjoyable. The blue skies have turned a gloomy shade of grey, the misty drizzle has left us constantly damp, and the cold wind has made our fingers numb, but rather than hide away from it all, we’ve decided to embrace it. Cupar loves being outside anyway and gets so restless if he’s stuck in the house for too long, so we couldn’t stay in even if we wanted to. The rain doesn’t bother him at all, and he’s quite happy to slowly wander about while getting soaked through to his skin!

Puddles

When you get rain, you inevitably get puddles, and when you get puddles, you get one very happy little boy! Cupar has been in his element in this rainy weather. His Grandma bought his some lovely little wellies, and since then we haven’t been able to stop his splashing about. He thinks it’s hilarious to stand in the middle of a big puddle and stamp his feet up and down, sending splashes of water all over himself and us. He loves puddles so much that he’s constantly bringing us his wellies and trying to get us to take him outside, even at 9 o clock at night when he’s about to go to bed.

First trike

We bought Cupar his first trike this month, and he absolutely loves it. It’s a pushchair and trike in one, and is honestly, one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. He can’t reach the peddles just yet, but he loves being pushed around on it. It’s made a great alternative to the big pushchair for us because Cupar does tend to get restless in there now. The pushchair trike is a lot more interesting for him because he has handles to hold, and he’s a lot less restricted in there.

Food

One of the best things about this time of year is the food. Chili, casserole and bangers and mash are all staple autumn meals in our house. When you’ve been out in the cold and wet all day, you need something comforting to come home to, and luckily, that is something that Aeron does best. We’ve been trying to save a bit of money too, and making a big casserole that you can spread out over a couple of nights is the ideal way to do that.

Spring cleaning

For some reason, October is my spring cleaning time! As soon as the nights draw in, and the weather changes, I suddenly get a burst of motivation and feel like doing things around the house. I’m constantly cleaning and tidying at the moment, and I’ve already planned out how I’m going to decorate the bedrooms and the bathroom – all I need now is some money to put those plans into action!

Onesies

It’s finally cold enough to wear my lovely, warm, fluffy onesie again. I bought it a few years ago and it’s by far one of my favourite pieces of clothing that I own! Our house gets so chilly in the winter, and this onesie definitely helps to keep the chill out. I think I’m going to need to invest in a few more of them, and I may even try and persuade Aeron to wear one too.
