15 Things To Do With Kids In May | 2020

It’s May, hooray! The weather is getting warmer, the evenings and mornings are getting lighter, and we’re getting closer and closer to summer. If you’re getting a bit bored of being at home and you’re looking for things to do with the kids in May, then read on!

We may still be on lockdown for the time being, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have some fun and enjoy ourselves, right? Even when we’re at home, there’s still plenty to do.

Here are 15 things to do with kids in May (and some for Mums too)

  1. Have a picnic in the garden with scotch eggs and lemonade (or your picnic food of choice). If you don’t have a garden or access to an outside space at the moment, why not put a nature programme on and have a picnic in your living room.
  2. Use the warmer weather to change up your eating habits and start a healthier routine for the family. Whip up some salads with pasta, couscous and lots of veg for a yummy lunch or dinner
  3. Make use of all the extra time at home and get crafty. Pinterest has loads of craft ideas you can do that the kids will LOVE ♥
  4. Set some time aside to read a book, preferably something about summer, beaches, or holidays so that you can get lost in it and pretend you’re laying on a beach somewhere!
  5. To keep the kids entertained while you’re reading your book, why not start a book club for them. Give them a book to read that they can get totally engrossed in, and then encourage them to write or talk about when they’ve finished it. They could even get their friends to join in too.
  6. Take a step back in time and give everyone a haircut just like your Mum used to. You might learn a new skill, and if it all goes horribly wrong then at least there will be time for it to grow out before we get back to ‘normal life’!
  7. Start an ‘end of lockdown’ jar where you all put your spare change. Once lockdown is over, you can use it to treat yourselves to something.
  8. Make a list of your must-see films as a family, and work your way through them.
  9. Get crafty again and create a scrapbook of things you want to do after lockdown is over. Cut pictures out of magazines, draw, colour, and paint your way through it.
  10. Do a family spring clean of the house. The kids could go through their toys and clothes and choose which things they want to donate.
  11. Try some birdwatching from home. You can set up a little ‘birdwatching station’ in the garden or at a bedroom window and see how many you can spot. Have a notebook on hand to write down what you’ve seen and draw pictures so you can look them up afterwards.
  12. Get cooking. Teach the kids a simple meal to make like pasta sauce or cottage pie.
  13. Start a cupcake decorating challenge and then enjoy eating them all when you’re done.
  14. See how many different types of rainbows you can create to display around the home and garden. Try using different things like paper, cut up t-shirts, chalks, and wool.
  15. Get the lego out and have a lego building competition. Set a task and see who can do it the best.

I hope this has given you some inspiration for things to do this month. Is there anything on here that you’re looking forward to trying?

    1. My little boy is still a bit young to do some of them, but they’re all things I’m looking forward to doing 😊

  1. So many great ideas! I love making a book club, it not only gets them reading but it helps them pay more attention to the book since they will be discussing it after. My son has been helping me cook lately and he’s been enjoying it quite a bit.
